- Conflict is an extended fight or struggle, whether neighborhood crime and violence, civil war or war between two countries.
- Many of the poorest countries are locked in a cycle in which poverty causes conflict and conflict worsens poverty.
- Conflict, especially civil war, is expensive and its effects last long after the fighting ends: Many people die. Other people flee to other countries. Illnesses and diseases spread easily. Many children don’t have a chance to have a happy childhood. It is difficult to rebuild the cities and the countryside and restart economy.
