- Natural disasters are events, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, forest fires, tsunamis, that can cause serious and severe damage to people and countries.
- Natural disasters are happening more often and touch more people’s lives than ever before, so countries need to plan ahead. Many governments are working to make buildings stronger, to set aside money and supplies in case of an emergency, and to have temporary schools to get kids back to learning as soon as possible.
- It can take months and sometimes years for a country to rebuild after a natural disaster. For example, people in Bam, Iran, are living in tents after an earthquake flattened the city in December 2003.
