What Do Youthink! About Gender?

"thuisahero," 17, Vietnam

"Many people have claimed to be aware of women's rights. However, sexual inequalities still exist in even the most civilized corners of the planet, ruining the career opportunities of women. In my country, particularly in some rural and mountainous areas, women are still victims of family torture and they have to do a lot of exhausting work. Minority women, even worse, have no access to health care and every occasion they give birth to a child is a nightmare for them (because usually they are left alone in some completely abandoned houses). I believe this is also the situation of many women in the world. We definitely have to do something about this!"

Maria, 19, Papua New Guinea

"In my country men treat women with no respect and if a husband hits his wife the wife arrest him and the husband's people bail's him out and he goes looking for his wife. And she follows him back home. Why can not women learn to be strong on their own and learn to be proud?"

Okako, 17, Democratic Republic of Congo

so many attention has gone to many other problems such as AIDS, Popverty, etc. as a result we have put gender equality into hold. in many countries gender equality is still an issue. in countries such as D.R. Congo where womens are still expected to travel miles in search for water and food while their husbands are quietly waiting. we must understand that gender equality is still a problem in many under develop countries and that the only way it can be reduce is by raising awareness about it around the world.

Olga, 12, Australia

"at school boys are really sexist. they dont think we can do what they can, and treat you as if you are below them. of course, there are some boys (my mates) that arent like that, and thats great, but the majority think that we are below them. it drives me insane!"

"ugaasowevo," 27, Somalia

"many women in the world have problem about family, they need education, job and moral support. unfortunatly their cultures are problem so that they need rights thats why i want talk about that."
