Hunger for an End to Poverty
"If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one."
Mother Teresa

November 20, 2006—Some 30 years ago Oxfam America came up with a blazingly brilliant idea: Bring families, friends, communities together around Thanksgiving time to fast by choice for those who have no choice but to fast.
But you don't have to live in America to organize your own Hunger Banquet. The menu for your gathering can be as simple or complex as you'd like to dream up. What's great, though, is that you'll have no dishes to clean and you'll be helping others to have another reason to be thankful.
So, gather your friends, family, classmates, teachers, teammatesreally, whoever likes to eatand write up your favorite recipes. Don't make them though. Take the money you save from not cooking (or eating) and donate the money to an organization that feeds the hungry.
Don't have a favorite recipe? No problem. How about skipping the bag of popcorn at the movies instead? The whole idea behind the banquet, as Josh Peck of one.org puts it so succinctly, is to remind us of the scope of the problem and our special role in fixing it.

How hungry are you?
The right time to eat is: for a rich man when he is hungry, for a poor man when he has something to eat.
